music videos are cool. alot of people would say that's awfully immature of me to say, but whatever, make yourself a jammin' tune and couple it with an intriguing video and you've got something fantastic, not just a three-minute gap commercial on mtv.
i came across these three videos in the past couple days and have been thoroughly enjoying them, i hope you will too.

LCD Soundsystem's "Tribulations", the fourth single/video from their self-titled 2005 album, maintains the cool energy and style of the previous three videos ("Movement," "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House," and "Disco Infiltrator"), but crosses the borderline from silly-fun music video to ambitious-cool music video. Kudos, James & co.
Of Montreal's "Wraith Pinned To The Mist (and other games)", the second single from 2005's The Sunlandic Twins, is just about the cutest portrayal of morbid cartoon violence I've ever seen, perfectly blending with the Doughty-esque bubbly-pop-sound-yet-rather-depressing-lyrically song which Kevin Barnes delivers to the audience with a sense of ambivalence. My only problem is that the last quarter or so of the video is rather unsatisfying compared to the earlier parts.
Final Fantasy's "The CN Tower Belongs To The Dead" is probably my favorite song off of his (Owen Pallett, better known as violinist for The Arcade Fire) 2005 debut, ...Has A Good Home. In this live video, you get to see his effective use of a simple loop pedal in order to perform a fairly dense and busy song all by his lonesome (save, of course, for his violin).

the first two videos are .mov format, while the third is .m4a, so all three will require Quicktime to view, though the Final Fantasy vid will probably require the most up-to-date version of Quicktime.

yesterday, i decided it would be fun to put together a mixtape of live covers, since i am such a fan of both musical "rarities" or whatever. here are the ones i've thought up so far to put on. since my computer is currently far, far away, i don't have access to my iTunes library for a refresher of what i have. some of the ones i've remembered are already played out by scenesters, but some are not.

Moxy Fruvous - NWA's "Fight the Power"
Ben Folds & Rufus Wainwright - Wham!'s "Careless Whisper"
Yann Tiersen & Neil Hannon - David Bowie's "Life on Mars"
Sufjan Stevens - REM's "The One I Love"
The Arcade Fire - Talking Heads'"Naive Melody"
The Decemberists - Joanna Newsom's "Bridges and Balloons"
Kind of Like Spitting - Mirah's "La Famalia"
Kings of Convenience - Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'"
Tilly and the Wall - Outkast's "Hey Ya"

i'm sure i'll come up with other/better songs this weekend when i'm back in wretched florida in front of my computer again.

i was just telling heather and maria yesterday that i wouldn't mind being evacuated for a hurricane again if it happened to be a few days before Q And Not U's farewell show at the Knitting Factory, when i would gladly come home and rock out.
